5 Secrets to Aging Gracefully

It’s no secret that we all want to preserve our beautiful, youthful skin. Well at least most of us do. Some ‘trying to fight the inevitable’ even go through stellar amounts of Botox, and face-lift sessions until their face literally looks like the JOKER from Batman! I mean hey, you can’t stay young forever right?  But it’s all about aging gracefully, and there are some folks who have nailed it, such as George Clooney, Jane Seymour, Denzel Washington, Salma Hayek, Pierce Bronson, Angela Basset, and Tom Cruise (he’s always on the top of my list when it comes to handsome, sexy, downright mouthwatering…) well you get the point. Wiping the drool from my mouth and moving right along.  So what’s the secret, how are these people knocking years off of their appearance?

1) Drink water for younger looking skin.

Yes, we all know that drinking water is supposed to flush and purify your system. But would you drink more of it knowing that it could make you look younger? I sure as heck would.  When you are not consuming enough water, your skin displays a dry, flaky, non-resilient appearance.  When your skin is dry and non-resilient, it is also more prone to that big ‘W’ word that we all try to avoid. ‘WRINKLES’ so get your drink on!

2) Moisturize, Moisturize, oh and MOISTURIZE!

Moisturized cells promote supple skin.  Daily moisturizing is one of the best defenses against dryness.  The model Imani says that she quickly removes her makeup when she gets home, and MOISTURIZES soon after, and I don’t have to say how young this chick still looks at 59 years old. Check out this article I wrote about the best ways to hydrate your skin.

3) Stop smoking!

Yes I’m sorry to say but smoking adds years to your life and appearance.

4) Eat antioxidant rich foods.

Picture how an apple turns brown once exposed to air.  That’s called oxidation and the same happens to our skin by way of sun exposure, pollution, wind, and temperature.  Common antioxidants are Vitamins A, C, E, and beta-carotene. These special chemicals assist in skin repair and the strengthening of blood vessels.  Great antioxidant rich foods to start munching on are blueberries, spinach, raspberries, nuts, seeds, and dark chocolate.  Oh yeah you heard me DARK CHOCOLATE! Sign me up for a bar a day!

5) Avoid processed sugar.

Sugar leads to damaged collagen and elastin, which cause wrinkles.

Aging is a natural process of life, and can be a beautiful thing, but people fight it like the plague.  Who says you can’t be 60 and sexy?

The body is a precious commodity. Nourish it. Love it!
