Product Review: The Face Wash Battle

Hello my awesome lovelies!! One thing I’ve vowed to do better this year was staring my faults/weaknesses in the face and focusing on turning them into strengths. With that being said, I have a confession…..I’m a product junkie. Wow, there, I said it. I’ve tried rehab, meditation, hypnosis, support groups, and nothing has worked thus far, so I figure it is what it is and I should embrace this ‘love for skin care products’ habit. So here I am with a review of 3 facial cleansers that I have been using for a while.

From left to right, we have bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash,Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser, Origins Cleanser Checks & Balances Frothy Face Wash.

A good quality about all 3 is that they aren’t drying to the skin. You know how some facial cleansers strip all of the oils out of your face leaving it sooooo tight that you can’t smile at the super hot neighbor that just popped up by surprise to introduce himself… Now he thinks you are stuck up because you wouldn’t… well couldn’t smile at the guy? Yea… that problem. So can you see how important it is to choose the right face wash??!! Ok, so let’s get back to this battle.

More about our “contestants”

bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash, is a 2-in-1 gel cleanser and exfoliator. It always leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean, and the exfoliation factor is a gentle one. I mean it is just enough. I like the skin softening passion-flower extract and the rose hips extracts which help to promote tissue regeneration which is beneficial for scars, burns and wrinkles.

The Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser contains vitamin C and other brightening citrus extracts, which helps to fade dark marks and blemishes over time.

Last, but not least, the Origins Cleanser Checks & Balances Frothy Face Wash is supposed to balance dry and oily skin types. I have combination skin, and this wash seemed to balance me out.

Round 1: A closer look at the ingredients

I personally like facial cleansers that have exfoliation properties. This means that my initial review would claim Bliss as the winner. However, I wrote a piece regarding microbeads and how they contribute to pollution a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, thebliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash contains polyethylene beads, which I have taken a stand against. So until Bliss joins the “Microbead Free” movement, I will have to disqualify them from the battle.

Round 2: Do the product claims measure up?

On with the next round. It’s important to know what type of skin you have before choosing a face wash. Some facial cleansers will list their specialty up front such as ‘good for oily skin.’ That statement brings me to the next face wash under the scope, Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser. The claim of this face wash is ‘skin brightening,’ by way of the Vitamin C and other citrus extracts. I love the citrusy smell of this face wash, and it foams…. I love foam. You can purchase a 7oz bottle of this for $30, which is a good buy in my book especially since… [trx_highlight type=”2″]it does what it claims to do[/trx_highlight]. But you have to stay consistent with it.

Next up is Origins Cleanser Checks & Balances Frothy Face Wash. This wash is not frothy as advertised but more so a creamy cleanser. I’m not to giddy about the smell as it almost smells like stale spearmint gum. But that’s not a total deal breaker for me. You can purchase a 5oz bottle for $21.50.

And the winner is…

Alright so who won the battle? In all fairness Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser has great ingredients in its product, and does what it says its does. So it gets the prize. However, Origins is a great product as well and is effective at what it claims to do. So I’m actually going to give it to both of them! Sooooo lets give a round of applause to Origins Cleanser Checks & Balances Frothy Face Wash and Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser.

Until next time,
Jay Davenport
